PLACE 1: Fling to the Finish (Daedalic)

TOMMI 2021

This is what the children's jury says:

»› Fling To The Finish ‹wins the TOMMI because it's about teamwork.

In the game we are chained together with a partner and we have to reach our goal together.

The game is very fun and in some places also exciting.

In front of an abyss we have to jump at the same time, otherwise we will fall down.

The graphics look very good.

We particularly like the teamwork.

Games are simply more fun together! "

This

is what

the expert jury says:

“Together we have to complete a course and reach our goal.

The trick is that the two game pieces are literally connected to each other.

In addition to reaching the finish line, additional tasks can be completed.

The players have to coordinate and discuss this together.

The game mechanics are innovative and a lot of fun, but typical for the genre it can also be chaotic here.

The game can optionally be played with several people, but also alone. "

PLACE 2: Village romance (Toukana Interactive)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is

what

the children's jury says:

»› Dorfromantik ‹wins the TOMMI because it's simple and yet sophisticated and tricky. We connect hexagonal puzzle pieces with each other and thus combine rivers, cities, forests or train tracks. Unfortunately, there are only a limited number of parts. We have to plan really well, otherwise the world could end up looking weird. "

This is

what

the expert jury says:

»The central features of this placement game are the decelerated gameplay and the appealing design.

Similar to an analog board game, cards are gradually laid out to build up a landscape.

This is done without pressure, and the rules are simple and intuitive to understand.

The low entry barriers, the board game aesthetics and the harmonious atmosphere make the title appealing to a broad target group.

Since the landscape maps are generated randomly each time the game is started, each game is redesigned. «

PLACE 3: Townscaper (Raw Fury)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is

what

the children's jury says:

»› Townscaper ‹wins the TOMMI because it's cool and different. Our job is to build our own dream city on an island in the water. The game is very calm and very relaxing, there is no hectic pace. It's just fun to build the city in the colors of your choice. We can let off steam with the colors. It can also be very wide or high. Sometimes we are surprised how a house or tower grows on and on. The idea is simply good and creative. "

This is

what

the expert jury says:

»It's easy to fall in love with the 'Townscaper' building game.

There is no need for sophisticated resource management or complicated controls to keep creating new dream cities.

With every click, the city grows and a small house becomes a large one, a low one becomes a high one, several a street, a district, from a village to an entire city.

And everything that the players build looks harmonious and beautiful.

A game without any hectic. "

PLACE 1: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Nintendo)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is what the children's jury says:

»› Super Mario 3D World & Bowser's Fury ‹wins the TOMMI because it offers maximum fun and we can play it with friends and family. We like the design, the transformations and the fact that we need good reflexes. Bowser looks super angry, really cool. That a good guy and a bad guy team up with Mario and Bowser Jr. is just wow! We play with it as if we really experience it ourselves. "

This is

what

the expert jury says:

“This game was already available for the Wii-U and has been released for the Switch with the additional game› Bowser's Fury ‹.

However, the game has lost none of its fascination: Mario jumps, climbs and transforms into a cute cat.

The second game is of a different caliber: Baby Bowser asks Mario for help to free the Velvetpaw Coast from the black slime.

Together the duo has to defeat opponents, solve puzzles, overcome skill passages and compete against the gigantic anger-bowser. "

PLACE 2: Sackboy: A Big Adventure (Sony)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is what the children's jury says:

»› Sackboy: A Big Adventure ‹wins the TOMMI because it's great fun. Sackboy is set to defeat a villain named Vex who wants to ruin the world. The game is very challenging. We collect dream balls, have to jump, hold on, but are not allowed to die. It stays exciting all the time. That is why good timing, patience and cleverness are particularly important. We also like the fact that sometimes we get stuck if we don't help each other. "

This is

what

the expert jury says:

“The dark Vex kidnapped the sacklings in order to misuse their creativity and imagination for his dark plans.

To prevent this, the players set out in the role of Sackboy and travel to unbelievable worlds.

The levels contain classic jump passages and obstacles, but are also full of creative ideas such as trampolines, laser beams or rotating wheels.

Everywhere there is something new to discover, secrets to be found and almost all objects can be interacted with.

A real good mood game! "

PLACE 3: Just Dance 2021 (Ubisoft)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

The children's jury says:

»› Just Dance 2021 ‹wins the TOMMI because it's an extraordinary dance game that we can play again and again with our friends. It's funny and very sporty. It's just more fun to move when you have really good music with so many famous singers. Again and again we have to master new dances and levels of difficulty. A little tip: It works better if you look at the people performing on the screen like a mirror. "

This is what the expert jury says:

“When the TOMMI comes up, there will be dancing to the annual 'Just Dance' version.

The simple principle of the game of re-dancing a choreography - as good as you can - makes self-confessed couch potatoes happy after a few minutes.

Thanks to the various levels of difficulty, parents are not overwhelmed either, and there are child-friendly dances for the youngest.

The music selection consists of chart music, EDM, Latin American music and K-pop.

Great movement game. "

PLACE 1:

The Olchis - Tower building for kids (Fox & Sheep)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is what the children's jury says:

»› The Olchis - Turmbau für Kids ‹wins the TOMMI because the Olchis are simply very cool. Our job is to build a particularly tall tower from the Olchis' garbage. It is important that the balance is right. Otherwise the tower will tip over. Sometimes flying men come and tease us, but we throw mud at them. We like the relaxed music and the graphics. It's great fun because the tower can get higher and higher and because we are proud when we have really climbed it. "

This is what the expert jury says:

“Fun is guaranteed here: a tall tower made of scrap has to be built on the Olchis' garbage dump.

It should be wide so that it remains stable and doesn't wobble too much.

Cheered on by the Olchis, one now becomes a musty builder.

But be careful!

There are some troublemakers trying to sabotage the tower.

The operation is simple and the gameplay is well known.

During the first run, there is still advice on better construction. "

Note from jugendschutz.net: Within the app there is a request to rate the app.

Children can be unintentionally led into the store, but the app is explicitly aimed at children from 4 years of age.

Since the app can be played in offline mode, parents should switch off the internet connection.

PLACE 2: Our sandman (Ahoiii & RBB)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is

what

the expert jury says:

»› Our sändmännchen ‹wins the TOMMI because the app offers the full range.

We watch videos and photos and listen to radio plays.

We play the piano, drums and a memory.

We like the mini-games and it's designed to be very kid-friendly.

We can occupy ourselves with it for a long time or look at the world with the sandman.

The app is actually for younger children, but we still liked it a lot. "

This is what the expert jury says:

»The Sandman app is convincing across the board.

The highlight: Children have access to a huge, colorful world of games in which they can try out, move and create all kinds of things.

You can also record your own little stories there at the push of a button.

There are also a lot of great videos and audio stories from the popular bedtime storyteller and his friends, as well as the current Sandmann episode. "

PLACE 3: Fuchs im Netz - the cybersecurity game (CLT Creative Learning Technologies GmbH)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is

what

the children's jury says:

»› Fox on the Net ‹wins the TOMMI because it teaches us how to use the cell phone correctly. We think that's good because it's an important topic in everyday life. We have our own cell phone for chatting and finding the way. The tasks are well explained, so we always know what to do. We also like the story of the alien fox. He crashed his rocket and we're supposed to find the parts. To do this, we need good eyes. The graphics are mega. "

This is what the expert jury says:

»In this app, children receive the most important information on the subject of data protection.

For example, it is playfully conveyed why a secure password is necessary or how a good password should be composed.

The framework story is told by a fox from space who makes an emergency landing with a father and his son.

The story and the characters are written in a child-friendly manner and beautifully illustrated.

In addition, the change between story, mini-games and information is well done and designed to be entirely informative and child-friendly. "

Expand the Education area

PLACE 1: InvestNuts (VisualVest)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is

what

the children's jury says:

»› Investnuts ‹wins the TOMMI because it explains to children how investing money works. This educational game is about a squirrel that hibernates and wakes up in summer. In order for it to survive, we should plant enough nut trees. But if we plant everything, we will have nothing left for the winter. So the planting has to be done very wisely. It's fun because there isn't a risk of losing all of our money, as there is in real life. "

This is

what

the expert jury says:

»

This app brings children closer to the aspects of investment in a playful way.

In the role of a squirrel, you decide for yourself which nuts or trees to plant, as all tree types have different yields.

So clever management has to be made here in order to achieve a profit in the end.

Children also learn why long-term planning makes sense.

The complex mechanics are explained in an understandable way, the operation is intuitive and the audiovisual presentation is also designed to be child-friendly.

The game is entertaining and invites you to play it more often.

A note: This is a commercial provider, this should be taken into account when using the app. «

PLACE 2: Oceans (Carlsen Verlag)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is

what

the children's jury says:

»› Ozeane ‹wins the TOMMI because with the VR glasses we have the feeling that we are really under water.

And that's cool.

We like that we decide for ourselves what we want to know, because there are topics that are exciting and not so exciting.

We can look at different things like the ocean floor, coral reefs or the plastic waste in the ocean.

We learned that corals are living things and that sharks don't go after humans, they just crash sometimes.

It's like a mixture of books and movies. "

This is what the expert jury says:

»Over 50 pages,› Oceans ‹deals with the fascinating underwater worlds of our planet, their most important manifestations and diverse inhabitants, but also the threats to which the oceans are exposed by mankind.

The attractively designed book invites you to take a long dive, but the addition of cardboard VR glasses that can be folded up quickly ensures an even more immersive experience.

Thanks to the associated app and cardboard VR glasses, readers are transported directly to half a dozen animated scenarios from the book.

A short but great experience for young researchers. "

PLACE 3: Osmo Coding Starter Kit |

Version 2021 (Tangible Play Inc.)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is what the children's jury says:

“The 'Osmo Coding Starter Kit' is supposed to win the TOMMI because it also offers young children their first programming experience. It is explained very clearly. If we cleverly put the tiles down, the figure will walk in the right direction. To do this, we have to be smart, otherwise we will never reach the cake. Collecting strawberries was fun. We didn't even know that programming could be so fun. "

This is what the expert jury says:

»The› Osmo Coding Starter Kit ‹combines three programs in one set. A little monster runs through a fantastic world and collects strawberries, wood and other things to beautify his warehouse. The main attraction of the game is the controls: instead of typing in commands, children place the control commands run, jump, take, repeat with plates in front of the tablet. Children learn the basics of algorithmic thinking in a playful way. The program is motivating and varied. "

Note from jugendschutz.net: »In principle safe for children.

However, there is no clear separation between what is offered for children and what is aimed at adults.

Via links, children can unintentionally quickly get to the store or to offers from the provider on which other products are presented and advertised.

There is no parental control to prevent this. "

PLACE 1: DKT Smart (Wiener Spielkartenfabrik / Piatnik)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is what the children's jury says:

»› DKT Smart ‹wins the TOMMI because it makes you want to go and we have to think smart and tactically. It is a board game that is played together with a tablet. We buy and auction houses. The tablet rolls the dice and says which house or property can be bought. It's a good game to see how to manage a fortune and spend money carefully. Roulette is also fun because it is a game of luck. We also like the fact that we can play it with other children. "

This is what the expert jury says:

“We learned that DKT is by no means a Monopoly clone, but is played instead of Monopoly in Austria.

DKT stands for ›The Commercial Talent‹.

The app is the contemporary addition to the board game and increases the fun enormously.

DKT is a good example of how a well thought-out app does not replace a board game, but complements it.

Children will get along well with the app, but we recommend installing it on a tablet. "

Note from jugendschutz.net: »When starting, you are required to enter an e-mail address for registration.

This would not be necessary to use the app. "

PLACE 2: Mazzy - Your smart app robot (Kosmos)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is what the children's jury says:

»› Mazzy ‹wins the TOMMI because the robot car can dance, make noises and facial expressions and do lots of cool things. He can even do hip-hop. First we have to assemble Mazzy with screws. It's very fun to build your own race tracks for the robot and then enter all the commands into the app. We are allowed to code with it. And because we have to think about it, we also learn something. And when the tablet days are over, we can just play with them. "

The expert jury says:

»› Mazzy ‹is a robot from Kosmos.

It convinces with its charm and the diverse possibilities.

It can be programmed via an app to display expressions of emotions and drive through the area.

As a highlight, Mazzy can dance and play music himself.

There is always something going on with him and he is a joyful everyday companion.

Mazzy can be operated very easily and intuitively via the app, but also with direct key combinations.

Not only is its functions convincing, the assembly was also easy to accomplish. "

PLACE 3: Osmo Coding Starter Kit |

Version 2021 (Tangible Play)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

This is what the children's jury says:

»The› Osmo Coding Starter Kit ‹is supposed to win the TOMMI because it is a very happy programming game and simply puts you in a good mood. We put pieces together that tell the being in which direction to move forward in the game. We have to collect strawberries, which is funny because we love to eat strawberries the best. It's fun to touch the pieces and see what happens on the tablet. For example, one shouldn't follow a strange rabbit. Programming is fun this way. "

This is what the expert jury says:

»The› Osmo Coding Starter Kit ‹offers three different approaches to simple logic programming. The players can decide whether they want to lead the character ›Awbie‹ through a forest full of obstacles, create their own musical compositions or solve tricky puzzles in pairs. The game mechanics are perfectly suited to the target group in terms of handling. An understanding of logic and simple coding are combined here with fun and variety. "

Note from jugendschutz.net: »In principle safe for children.

However, there is no clear separation between what is offered for children and what is aimed at adults.

PLACE 1: It Takes Two (EA Electronic Arts)

Photo: TOMMI 2021

PLATZ 2: Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Sony)

Toller Soundtrack.«

PLATZ 3: Biomutant (THQ Nordic)

Townscaper (Raw Fury)

This is what the team from Gaming without Borders says:

»Although› Townscaper ‹does not have a tutorial, our jury was able to operate the controls perfectly after a little trial and error.

Controls and gameplay are kept simple and ensure that the game is easy to play with cognitive and motor impairments.

Since no game-relevant content is reproduced via sound, our young people with hearing impairments liked to play ›townscapers‹.

If the game also offered a sans serif font and made the menu larger, it would have been convincing even in the fourth section, ›See‹. "
