Waakirchen: Photovoltaics should be on the roof faster

There could have been harmony in the Waakirchen municipal council.

The new fire station in Hauserdörfl is ready and everyone agrees that a photovoltaic (PV) system should be installed on the roof.

The question is when?

Waakirchen - Mayor Norbert Kerkel (FWG) actually gave the answer in an earlier meeting: The PV system is put on the roof when the energy consumption of the fire station with three apartments and thus the required system size can be estimated.

As reported, experts in the community had advised to take a year for this.

The two Green councilors Cornelia Riepe and Evi Obermüller see it differently.

They think: The system should be on the roof immediately.

That is why, despite the declaration of intent, they had submitted the formal application to install a PV system on the fire station.

The council had to vote on it.

"We don't need to give away a year," explained Riepe. Obermüller recalled that the city of Tegernsee had already decided to cover the roof with the maximum possible PV system for its new fire station, regardless of self-consumption. Electricity that is generated too much can be fed into the grid. After all, it's not just about saving money. “The important thing is to save CO2,” said Obermüller. The community also has a role model function.

Erwin Welzmiller (CSU) warned against a rush shot. As chairman of the Waakirchen-Schaftlach energy cooperative for many years, he knows how different the consumption levels of municipal buildings are. Welzmiller explained that it is worthwhile to first collect all the information and then install a system that exactly fits the house in question. An attitude that Gisela Hölscher (FW) supported. The season of the year when a PV system produces the lowest yield is also just beginning, she noted. Funding could in any case be applied for in good time.

Mayor Kerkel also speculates that the new federal government will increase the funding for PV systems.

Riepe just shook his head.

“We don't want to gamble,” she said.

It is easy to miscalculate because, for example, the feed-in tariff for electricity into the grid is continuously falling.

"You have relatively little confidence in the new government, which will also include the Greens," said Kerkel, referring to the Green councilors.

Rudi Reber (ABV) was also convinced that higher subsidies can be expected from the state in the future: "Anything else would be a catastrophe."

Riepe eventually softened the application to prevent it from failing.

“We don't want our head through the wall.” The only requirement was to set up the PV system “as quickly as possible”.

Carolin Marquardt (WIR) recommended putting the item on the agenda in January or February.

"Too early," Kerkel shook his head.

Riepe suggested March, Kerkel raised it to April.

With success: everyone voted for it.
