In the face of crowded homes, finding a vacant care place can be time-consuming.

A new internet portal in the Weser-Ems region should now simplify this search.

According to the initiators, it offers a function that is so far unique in Germany.

Leer / Osnabrück - A new online portal should make it easier in the Weser-Ems region to find a suitable care place nearby.

The portal, which has been available on the Internet for a few weeks at Gesundheit-weser-ems.de, currently contains the capacities of 214 fully inpatient care facilities and 145 outpatient care services - that is almost half of all 650 care facilities in the total twelve districts and five independent cities in the Weser-Ems region, as Frank Schüür, head of the senior and care support center in the district of Leer, announced.

The districts of Leer and Osnabrück were responsible for developing the portal for the working group of district administrators in the Weser-Ems region.

Around 2.4 million people live there.

The offer is aimed at hospitals and senior service offices looking for vacant care places, but also especially at people in need of care and their relatives.

A search mask can be used to enter where and how urgently a care place is being sought.

According to Schüür, the registered companies are required to register their vacancies every day.

This constantly updated capacity display makes the offer so far unique in Germany, said Schüür.

Since many facilities are occupied, seekers have so far had to make a lot of calls to find a free place in long or short-term care, said Schüür. Mostly it is about emergency situations when patients to be cared for are to be discharged from clinics, for example. “If you have to call 15 nursing homes in such a crisis situation and have not achieved anything after two days, of course there is panic and unrest. This care portal can help to look for a vacancy in the entire Weser-Ems region, ”said Schüür.

Anyone who has found a vacant nursing place in the portal will be shown corresponding contact options.

Searchers still have to pick up the phone.

In the future, it will also be possible to book places online via the portal - and day care facilities and providers of household-related services are also to be integrated at a later date.

"That happens gradually," explained Schüür.

"First of all, it's about the nursing homes, because that's where the greatest pressure is."

The service is free of charge for citizens.

The social services of the clinics, which also arrange care for patients, have to pay for special specialist access.

The construction of the portal, which is part of a model project, was financed with around 160,000 euros from the districts and federal funds.
