"Friends" stars pay homage to James Michael Tyler (Gunter) Israel today

The actor passed away after a serious illness and his cast members, including the main stars of the series, posted posts in which they said goodbye to their dear friend

After a 3-year battle with prostate cancer, actor James Michael Tyler, who played Gunter's beloved character in "Friends," passed away yesterday (Sunday) at his Los Angeles home surrounded by his family.

Only 59 years old was at his death.

Upon learning of the beloved actor's death, the network was flooded with thousands of tweets and posts in his memory, with his cast members also sharing his last moving words.

Jennifer Aniston, who recalled playing the object of his unattainable eternal love Rachel Green, mourned him sadly: "'Friends' would not have been the same without you. Thank you for the laughter you brought to the series and our lives. We will miss you very much."

Tyler starred in 150 episodes of NBC's hit series, which aired between 1994 and 2004.

Apart from friends, he has also appeared in guest roles over the years in series such as "Scrubs", "Sabrina the Young Witch" and "Just Shoot Me".
