It takes place again: The Christmas market in Schongau.
After a year off, the organizer Hermann Gleich is looking forward to sweetening the pre-Christmas season for Schongauers - without major corona-related restrictions.

- Hermann Gleich was relieved when he found out about the regulations for this year's Christmas markets. The hygiene protection rules recently announced by the Bavarian State Government allow the pre-Christmas events to be held without major restrictions. For the people of Schongau, too, this means: drinking carefree mulled wine, listening to music and eating bratwurst is finally possible again in the city center.
Immediately, who has been organizing the Schongau Christmas market for years, is happy that there is no general 3G or mask requirement for the event.
"I am in good spirits that we will have a normal Christmas market with it," he says.
Above all, the fact that there will be no fencing around the market area is a great relief.
“We only had one event on Marienplatz with a fence.
That scared off many ”, recalls Gleich reminiscing about the previous cultural week“ Kuku ”, for which a barrier had to be installed on Marienplatz.
"I don't want it like that again."
Accompanying program for young and old
The easing on the part of the government therefore enables an atmospheric Christmas market with all the trimmings.
In addition to food, mulled wine and handicraft stands, there is an accompanying program for young and old.
Musicians from the region provide the necessary Christmas atmosphere every evening, as do the lights and the pyramid.
There will also be Advent concerts in the parish church.
The children can look forward to the first Saturday when St. Nicholas brings them the "Packerl".
And the popular carriage rides through the city center are also being offered again - "the highlight", as Gleich finds out.
Only whether there is the children's theater in the Ballenhaus is currently unclear.
First and foremost, the well-known stand operators will set up their booths in Schongau.
“I have now made an all-round call,” says Gleich, who only has a few weeks left to organize.
Some have already oriented themselves differently professionally and have said goodbye to the Christmas market business.
But most of them would be happy that “something is working again” - whether they are restaurateurs, musicians or artisans.
With all the euphoria, however, there is also a small amount of skepticism.
"I just hope that nothing will change in the short term," says the organizer.
The date has already been set
Safety at the Christmas market must be guaranteed even if the hygiene rules are relaxed.
"We have to be careful with too many people and when forming groups," explains the organizer.
In order to keep an eye on the distances, standing tables should be set up more and more.
However, Gleich in Schongau does not expect dangerous overcrowding.
The Christmas market on Marienplatz will take place from December 2nd to December 12th.
It starts at 4 p.m. on weekdays, and on weekends the stands open at 2 p.m.
“It always goes until half past eight / nine, depending on the weather.
When it's full, it can take longer, ”explains the organizer, who is hoping for“ ideal weather ”.
As in the last few years of the Christmas market, there are plans to leave a mulled wine stall beyond Christmas until Epiphany.
