Autonomous driving already exists in Markt Schwaben: At Safelog, one of the currently 50 best medium-sized companies in Bavaria.

A visit.

Markt Schwaben - The name "Agent 236" is written in white on the green display.

Below: "Drive to 34".

"Agent 236" drives the stored and specified route autonomously.

If there are unexpected obstacles, it stops and waits for someone to remove it.

"Agent 236" is a mobile transport robot that, together with others in a swarm, drives a test track in the production hall of Safelog GmbH in Markt Schwaben.

The company has now been awarded the title “Bavaria's Best 50” by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs.

An expert jury from the accounting firm Baker Tilly GmbH & CO.

KG had checked around 8,000 medium-sized companies in Bavaria with regard to good crisis management during the corona pandemic.

Safelog is one of the award winners.

Markt Schwaben: Award from the Ministry of Economic Affairs

“This award confirms our view that you can emerge stronger from a crisis.

We are very proud to be among Bavaria's best medium-sized companies thanks to the commitment of our employees and our consistently implemented corona rules - this is a clear sign that hard work and commitment are rewarded and also noticed outside the company, "says company founder Michael Wolter.

He and the management see the growth of their own company as the basis for success, even in times of lockdowns. "The company did not go into shock, but under the given conditions consistently stuck to its planned route," says a message from the company for innovative logistics systems. With appropriate modern software.

According to its own information, Safelog also increased its sales by twelve percent in the pandemic year 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year.

A major customer is Mercedes Benz, where almost 500 transport robots such as “Agent 236” are in use in the “Factory 56” production hall.

One device can pull up to 1.5 tons of cargo, explains Managing Director Michael Reicheicher.

The programmed robots act and make decisions independently and are therefore a relief for automatisms in logistics.

Sales increased even in the corona year

In all the development of the devices, personal safety is paramount, says Reicheicher.

The mobile transport robots should not be an obstacle or stumbling block in storage / production halls, but rather a help.

So that, for example, forklift trips are no longer necessary.

And: You can be on the move without breaks, like a robotic lawnmower.

According to the managing director, around 80 people are employed at Safelog's headquarters in Markt Schwaben, plus locations in Germany and abroad with a further 80 employees.

The customers come from all over the world.

Suppliers from the region

Owner Michael Wolter emphasizes that regionality and short distances are important for production.

According to him, most of the suppliers come from the district of Ebersberg or the region.

Even if foreign producers were cheaper, high travel and transport costs would be incurred instead.

Therefore, prefer the region with long-term partners who can be relied on at any time, says Wolter.

This sustainability was also a criterion, which is why Safelog GmbH was named one of Bavaria's 50 best medium-sized companies.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.
