Chen Tongjia killed his girlfriend Pan Xiaoying during a trip to Taiwan in 2018 and then abandoned her body, then absconded and returned to Hong Kong. He was eventually imprisoned for money laundering.
The incident triggered the Hong Kong Government to amend the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance and triggered a storm of anti-amendment legislation. The social tear has not yet healed.
Chen Tongjia, who was released from prison in 2019, has yet to surrender to Taiwan.
