Austria puts the unvaccinated lockdown on the agenda.

Is that also possible in Bavaria?

Hubert Aiwanger and the President of the Landtag, Ilse Aigner, explain their view of Mercury.

Munich / Vienna - Austria threatens the unvaccinated with a new lockdown - and in Germany people look curiously at the neighboring country. As the ultimate measure of a five-step plan, the new Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP) announced curfews, which should not apply to those who have been vaccinated or recovered. The rule should apply when 600 intensive care beds are occupied by corona patients, almost three times more than currently. “We have too many procrastinators and hesitants,” said Schallenberg at the weekend. A great responsibility rests on the unvaccinated person. And: "We are about to stumble into a pandemic of the unprotected without need."

Back to lockdown?

In parts of Europe this is no longer a plan, but a reality.

In the EU country Romania there is already an evening curfew for unvaccinated people, in Latvia for everyone, in the Russian capital Moscow many shops and leisure facilities are closed.

Austria is also not that far removed from the highest warning level;

the clinic occupancy could skyrocket in November.

Corona lockdown for unvaccinated people in Bavaria?

Söder has not yet commented - the hospital traffic light only makes vague guidelines

It is not certain what would happen if there was a sharp increase in hospital occupancy in Bavaria.

Prime Minister Markus Söder and his cabinet did not comment on request;

the state parliament SPD had also unsuccessfully requested a public stipulation.

The return to the FFP2 mask is considered safe as soon as the currently green “hospital traffic light” would switch to yellow, including the requirement to do PCR instead of rapid tests.

This is the case if more than 1200 people in Bavaria have to come to the hospital because of Corona within seven days.

It is also specified that the warning level "red" would be declared in Bavaria as soon as 600 corona patients are in intensive care units (currently there are 326).

Corona in Bavaria: CSU debates limited lockdown - Ilse Aigner gives the first hint

What exactly is then imposed in terms of measures at this red level has not yet been politically determined. Söder had ruled out a new lockdown (for everyone). He is open to specific restrictions for unvaccinated people, such as access to restaurants, culture and sports ("2G rule", i.e. only vaccinated and convalescent). His coalition partner Free Voters sees it differently. "We were and are for 3G," said Vice-Prime Minister Hubert Aiwanger - whose vaccination status had been extensively debated in late summer - the

. “3G” means that those who have been vaccinated, those who have recovered and those who have been tested have the same rights, obligations and access options.

A restricted lockdown is already being discussed behind closed doors in the CSU, and a decision has not yet been made.

Landtag President Ilse Aigner (CSU) told

Münchner Merkur

that a lockdown for unvaccinated people was "an absolute last resort - if the hospital traffic light is red, we have to act for a limited time".

The main thing is to protect the nursing staff from overload and to ensure that intensive care beds also have to be ready for non-corona cases.

However, Aigner demanded that any tightening must be “debated and decided in the state parliament”.

It is also about acceptance among the population.
