In just one month, two teenagers died in their homes.

The reason: The battery of the two-wheeled vehicles in their possession, caught fire while it was being charged.

The last of them is N., 17, from Netanya.

N., according to data before, is the eighth boy to die this year in these tragic circumstances.

But the circumstances of N.'s death are not fateful.

The organization "Terem" notes that between the years 2021-2016, there were 34 deaths of teenagers from a fire.

"As the popularity of bicycles and electric scooters increases, we hear more and more about fires caused by unsafe charging of the battery," said Orly Silvinger, executive director of the organization Before Child Safety. "Don't tell me it won't happen."

Sylvinger noted that the most common cause of such accidents is carelessness when charging the batteries.

"Do not charge a battery unattended, and at the end of the charge disconnect the battery from the electricity. Every home, especially one with children, must install a smoke detector. It is important to understand that a smoke detector saves lives, it will not prevent the fire Immediately to the fire and rescue forces. "

N.'s death was determined yesterday, after on Wednesday last week his electric scooter battery caught fire and caused a fire in his home.

At the school where he studied in the 11th grade, he was praised, and one of his classmates even wrote in a post: "Hope you are well upstairs."

The fire that followed killed N. broke out last Wednesday night at his parents' home in Netanya.

The investigation of the case reveals that the fire broke out as a result of a battery of an electric scooter that was in the room, which was apparently charged at the time.

The boy was caught in a fire in his room, and his family members were unable to rescue him.

Only later did firefighters manage to rescue the boy and he was taken to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.

A similar disaster occurred last September, when 12-year-old boy Emil Alofer in Petah Tikva was badly burned in a fire that broke out in his room following the explosion of a scooter battery.
