(ANSA) - BOLOGNA, OCTOBER 25 - The Public Prosecutor of Bologna with the substitute pg Luciana Cicerchia has asked for confirmation of the life sentence, in appeal ter for Daniela Poggiali, 49-year-old former nurse accused of killing one of her patients, the 78-year-old Rosa Calderoni, with a potassium injection a few hours after being admitted on April 8, 2014 at the 'Umberto I' hospital in Lugo, in the Ravenna area.

Before the Court of Assizes of Appeal, the third second degree trial is underway for the accused sentenced by the Assize Court of Ravenna to life imprisonment in the first instance: in two subsequent appeals in Bologna she had been acquitted - and at the end of the first released after 1,003 days in the cell - but with both sentences disavowed by as many Cassations in Rome.

The verdict is expected in the day both for this trend and for the one where Poggiali is judged for the murder of another elderly patient, the 94-year-old Massimo Montanari who died on March 12, 2014 also in Lugo.

For this case, the defendant was sentenced to 30 years in the first instance and was subjected to pre-trial detention in prison.

Present in the courtroom, Poggiali today made spontaneous statements, denying that he had made any manipulations on the blood sample and that he had killed patients.
