Following the Israeli government's announcement of the construction of 1,300 housing units in Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem, the European Union issued a statement of condemnation today (Monday) and announced that it would not recognize the changes made to the borders before 1967.
"Settlements are illegal under international law and constitute a major obstacle to achieving a two-state solution and to a just, lasting and comprehensive peace between the parties," the organization said.
"The European Union has consistently made it clear that it will not recognize changes in the pre - 1967 borders, including in relation to Jerusalem, other than those agreed by both sides. We call on the Israeli government to stop building settlements and not proceed with announced tenders."
Meanwhile, yesterday the UN envoy to the Middle East condemned the Israeli announcement.
