In Thuringia, workers in pubs, bars, restaurants or hotels earn significantly less than employees in other industries, according to union information.
Full-time employees in the hospitality industry therefore have a mean monthly income (median) of 1763 euros gross, as the food-pleasure-restaurants union (NGG) announced on Monday.
Across all industries, the mean gross monthly income is 2699 euros.
Erfurt - The NGG relied on an analysis by the union-related Hans Böckler Foundation, which evaluated the figures from the Federal Employment Agency.
These were collected during the Corona crisis, said the NGG country manager Jens Löbel when asked.
As of March 31, 2021, around 13,000 people were employed in the Thuringian hospitality industry, as well as around 8,200 marginally employed people.

Tourism industry cautiously positive until the end of the year
According to an internal association survey, the mood in the tourism industry has improved after the summer season.
The industry is now looking cautiously positive on the development until the end of the year, as the tourism association reported on Tuesday.
Currently, the economic situation is almost never good during the pandemic.
"A good autumn season is a prerequisite for the factories to continue to recover," said association manager Tobias Woitendorf.

Thuringian labor market in good shape
Autumn is traditionally the time when many sectors of the economy stop.
The job market in Thuringia benefits from this - more than before the corona pandemic.
However, delivery bottlenecks also mean short-time work.

In view of the wage gap, it is not surprising that many hotel and restaurant employees looked for a new job during the crisis, said Löbel.
Many of them would have had to get by on short-time work benefits for months, some of them are still dependent on it.
The hosts and hoteliers are also hit hard by the corona pandemic.
Nevertheless, everything must now be done to make wages and working conditions more attractive, demanded the trade unionist.
In the medium term, skilled workers could only be retained with better wages and working conditions.
In the upcoming collective bargaining negotiations, the NGG wants to demand, among other things, a lower wage limit of 13 euros per hour for the industry.
