The dream burst, the circus car sold: After years of work for tiny houses in Wolfratshausen, activist Thorsten Thane wanted to give up.

But then a wave of solidarity reached him.

Wolfratshausen - Thorsten Thane's dream has burst: This message in our newspaper caused "huge waves" last week, as the tiny house activist says. The chairman of the “Simply Live Together” association received news from all over Germany after he had made the decision to sell his circus wagon. Thane had restored the car for three years - with the aim of being able to live in it in Wolfratshausen at some point. Only from one side did Thane hear a single word.

The 49-year-old has been fighting for about five years to establish a settlement of alternative forms of living - so-called Tiny Houses (in German: "tiny houses") - in the district.

However, all attempts to implement such a project failed.

Last week Thane drew a line under the chapter: He sold the car that he had lovingly converted into a mini apartment over the past three years.

There was great frustration about the lack of political progress in this decision.

In an interview with our newspaper, he massively criticized the Wolfratshausen city council and the district office.

Tiny house activist Thorsten Thane draws new courage

A few days later, the frustration is still deep, but Thane has drawn new courage. “People from all over Germany wrote to me,” he says. "It is good to see that there are many people to whom this topic is also important and that my work has a meaning, and indeed beyond the boundaries of the district." Many strangers would have encouraged him with messages to continue to seek alternative forms of living and using tiny houses, reports the cameraman and director. He would like to do that too. “I'm not giving up,” he says.

However, he does not want to be involved in this in his home country for the foreseeable future.

“I haven't heard from anyone on the city council or in politics,” says the 49-year-old.

That is disappointing, "but unfortunately it does not surprise me at all".

With the exception of a few local politicians, hardly anyone from the decision-making bodies was interested in his ideas and the concepts of the smallest apartments.

"I had the impression that they wanted to sit out the topic now - as they had all the time."

“At some point I'll be living in a tiny house.

If that doesn't work here, then somewhere else. "

Thane draws his conclusion from this: “I buried my dream in Wolfratshausen.” He is active with his association in many districts, for example he recently visited the Greens in Penzberg as a speaker. "Elsewhere people are more open to projects like this," he learned. At the moment it is not an option for the father of the family to leave Loisachstadt. “But at some point I'll live in a tiny house. If that doesn't work here, then somewhere else. ”He has received invitations from many parts of Germany.

Thane still leaves one back door open: "If at some point a new city councilor is in office where I see more chances for such a project, I would perhaps dare to venture a step further." At the laugh that follows this statement , you can guess how great his hope is: “Actually, I have

locked it

here.”
