Conagua updated its report on Monday reporting that Category 2 hurricane Rick made landfall this morning in the vicinity of the La Unión municipality of Isidoro Montes de Oca, Guerrero, with sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour.

Rick is moving north at 13 km / h, and it is forecast that in the course of the day it will degrade to a tropical storm over Michoacán.

    Here's what it means for the drought- and hurricane-stricken southeast

Rick is expected to produce heavy rains that could lead to flooding and landslides, the National Hurricane Center report noted.

The National Water Commission (Conagua) in Mexico reported this Sunday that the states of Michoacán and Guerrero could suffer the heaviest rains that the storm discharges, but that other states in the center and west of the country will also receive heavy rainfall and even hail.

  • Climate change is making hurricanes stronger, slower and wetter;

    Ida was an example of this

The hurricane warning extends from Tecpan de Galeana, in Guerrero, to Punta San Telmo, in Michoacán, Conagua said.

In mid-October, another storm, Pamela, hit the Mexican Pacific coast with hurricane force, leaving downed trees, damaged businesses and flooded streets.
