Geretsried - A shoot for the ARD television series "Hubert without Staller"?

A corona mask check in the supermarket?

Speculations like this were made by passers-by who were amazed on Monday about the number of police, rescue and fire-fighters including vehicles in the parking lot between Penny and Fristo markets on Geretsrieder Böhmerwaldstraße.

Again and again explained patiently officials the reason for use.

During construction work on a private property on Dompfaffenweg in the Gartenberg district, a dangerous relic from the Second World War came to light on Monday morning: a 150 kilogram dud filled with 15 to 20 kilograms of explosives.

Removal of the bomb seemed too risky to the ordnance experts called in. They decided to defuse it on site.

A security area was set up 150 meters around the site where the World War II bomb was found.

More than 2000 residents had to leave their houses and apartments around 3 p.m.

Geretsrieder must expect leftover from World War II

The threads came together in mission control at said parking area.

“I am impressed how well everyone works together,” said Mayor Michael Müller, praising the emergency services, who were also on site.

It is already the fifth dud that was found during his tenure.

You have to reckon with that in Geretsried.

The Nazis had two ammunition companies in today's city.

Towards the end of the Second World War, on April 9, 1945, according to research by the Geretsried Historical Working Group, 2,078 bombs were dropped over today's Geretsried during an attack by the US Army.

Even if the city is prepared for these to appear one by one, "that can never be routine," said the town hall chief.

In order to clear the danger area, the Weidach fire brigade was on the road with loudspeaker announcements.

In addition, a good 150 officers from the Bavarian riot police went from door to door.

The BRK set up three care centers - at the Isardamm elementary school, in the council chamber and at the school center.

“A logistical challenge,” said spokesman Sohrab Taheri-Sohi.

The 180 emergency personnel had to observe the 3G rule in view of the pandemic situation.

"Due to the high incidence of corona in the district, we are taking higher protective measures."

Local residents are evacuated: relocating family had Birthday Coffee

Many residents apparently found other accommodation.

A few accepted the offered shelter with thanks.

Gabriele Homeyer's family actually wanted to celebrate their son's birthday in Gartenberg and had come specially from northern Germany.

The coffee table for the 34-year-old was set and they waited for the birthday boy to come home from work.

When the bomb came in between, the family moved the party to the council chambers.

"At least there is fresh coffee here," said Homeyer.

Around 4.30 p.m. Thomas Loibl, the city's press spokesman, reported: “The evacuation went smoothly.” The ordnance experts Usam Bach, Josef Semegi and Sebastian Braun were able to get to work.

Meanwhile, the operations management waited on the Böhmerwaldstrasse for things - curiously eyed by customers of the Penny-Markt.

In the discounter itself, the excitement in front of the door could hardly be felt.

“It's very quiet today,” reported store manager Michael Warzecha.

He and his colleagues took it calmly: "The safest workplace."

Demolition master at 6:57 p.m .: "Bomb defused!"

A 69-year-old resident combined his shopping in the late afternoon with a question from the police officers in the parking lot: “Can we go back?” For him it is the third evacuation in five years, this time the dud was found directly on the neighboring property.

"I looked out in the morning and it was immediately clear to me," said Gartenberger.

The 69-year-old had to be patient for a while.

At 6:57 p.m. the demolition engineer reported: "Bomb defused!" It was a head detonator M 103, explained Sebastian Braun shortly afterwards.

"You have to stay calm and not get into a hustle and bustle."
