Corona incidence in children and adolescents: highest value since the beginning of the pandemic

In the age group six to eleven years, the incidence across Bavaria was 415 last week, as the State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) announced on Monday.

That is an increase of 157 within a week and the highest value for an age group that the LGL has determined since the beginning of the pandemic.

For the 12 to 15 year olds the LGL also reports a massive increase: Here the incidence is now 391. Among the 16 to 19 year olds there are 324 cases per week and 100,000 inhabitants.

The previous incidence record for an age group came from the end of last year and at that time had reached 376 in the age group over 80.

Ministry of Culture is considering renewed masking requirements on the square in the school

The Ministry of Culture did not rule out another mask requirement on Monday.

"Of course we continue to monitor the infection situation very closely together with the Ministry of Health," said the Ministry on Monday at the request of the dpa.

"If necessary, further measures to protect against infection - such as a mask requirement even at the field under certain conditions - cannot be ruled out." Health authorities on site could already order further measures.

"The high incidence values can also be explained by the high test rate * among schoolchildren, which are not found in any other area of society with the same intensity," explained the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.

On Tuesday (October 26), the Bavarian cabinet will meet with district administrators and mayors from particularly affected regions and discuss the current corona situation.
