The Hong Kong Metropolitan University and the Hong Kong Sports Institute signed a memorandum of cooperation today to assist full-time elite athletes in the dual-track development of practical training and academic development.

Under the new arrangement, sports colleges can nominate full-time scholarship athletes to enroll in all undergraduate courses in Metropolitan University, and universities can also consider extending the academic year of athletes according to their needs to match their training and competition schedules.

In addition, the university will also provide individual mentor support services to help athletes adapt to university life.


The memorandum of cooperation was signed by Professor Lin Qunsheng, President of Metropolitan University, and Dr. Cuisha Li, Dean of Sports Academy. Under the new framework, the Sports Academy can nominate full-time scholarship athletes to enroll in all undergraduate courses of Metropolitan University.

Universities can also consider extending the academic year of athletes to suit their training and competition schedules according to their needs.

Lin Qunsheng expressed the hope that this cooperation can promote exchanges between the University and the Sports Institute, and provide Hong Kong elite athletes with flexible and diverse learning channels.

Deng Haolin, a second-year student of the Metropolitan University of Physical Therapy course, is also a member of the Metropolitan University’s badminton team.
