The shell of the largest hall in the district is finished.

Munich International School is investing around twelve million euros in its “Fitness and Athletics Building”.

More than half of them are donations.

The opening is planned for the summer of 2022.

Buchhof - Of course, the Munich International School (MIS) in Starnberg-Buchhof does not speak of a boring gym - but of the "Fitness and Athletics Building", or FAB for short. One day the whole school family - around 1200 students from 60 nations plus teachers - should be able to gather here, which has not been possible on campus up to now. After almost a year of construction, the shell of the quadruple hall is now ready.

MIS celebrated the topping-out ceremony these days.

Students had made the jewelry for the topping-out crown themselves before it was mounted on the roof.

The FAB not only opens up more rooms, but also more opportunities, said Headmaster Timothy Thomas at his topping-out speech - for physical education, for celebrations and events.

Conferences and exhibitions should be possible in a multi-purpose room.

On the upper floor, space will be created for offers that live up to the motto “healthy school”.

“That is the icing on the cake,” enthused managing director Roman Friemel.

This will set “new pedagogical standards” in several areas.

According to headmaster Thomas, the building will cost around twelve million euros in total. MIS has received a total of more than seven million euros in donations from organizations, former students and student parents. “There are hundreds of individual donations. They vary from five euros to a million. This shows that they all believe in our vision, ”said Thomas. In his address, Managing Director Friemel addressed the adversities caused by the corona, such as the delivery bottlenecks - and was pleased that the general contractor Züblin was able to meet the planned construction time so far. “We set the bar pretty high there. I am very happy that we can stand here like this, ”said Friemel. According to him, the operating costs of the hall will be kept within limits because the construction will be carried out in an energetically sustainable manner. After all, you have to live up to the “Green School” claim.

Incidentally, the construction workers were under constant observation by educators during the construction of the shell. The staff room is exactly opposite. Friemel only got positive feedback from there.

With a floor area of around 5600 square meters and a total volume of almost 20,000 cubic meters, the largest hall in the district is currently being built in Buchhof.

According to the plan, there are four hall areas with changing rooms, toilets and technical rooms in the basement.

A sports café on the ground floor invites you to take a break.

A large fitness center, a multi-purpose room (also for yoga or spinning) and a dance studio can be found on the first floor.

The opening is planned for summer 2022.

A large photovoltaic system is to be installed on the roof, as the school family needs a lot of electricity, says Friemel.

And she still needs “resources” for the system, in other words further donations.
