The congressman of the Peru Libre party Fernando Herrera died this Monday during the debate to decide whether to grant confidence to the president of the Council of Ministers, Mirtha Vásquez, as confirmed by the president of the Legislative Assembly, María del Carmen Alva.
Immediately after the fact became known, Alva suspended the session until Tuesday.
Alva did not specify the causes of the legislator's death.
Minutes later, President Pedro Castillo referred to the event on Twitter.
"I express my deep regret for the death of Congressman Fernando Herrera and I join the pain of his family," he wrote.
“We will remember him as a defender of democracy, who fought to end social differences.
