In view of the debate about a possible case of police violence in Pforzheim, the German Police Union warns against jumping to conclusions based on short videos.
“Based on experience, I advise caution.
Quite often there are reasons why only sequences are published, ”said state chairman Ralf Kusterer on Monday.
Pforzheim - "In many cases an overall view of what exactly happened, including what was not filmed, gives a completely different picture." Officials could also have acted out of self-defense.
"Every mission has a story."
Video recordings of the access on Saturday are circulating on the network, on which, among other things, a policeman can be seen beating a man who is lying on the ground and fixed.
Some users criticize this on the Internet.
The police are also investigating the behavior of the officers.
The colleagues should not be prejudiced, demanded Kusterer.
"I am aware of many cases that kept the media and the public busy for weeks and their colleagues suffered private and professional disadvantages as a result, but in the end none of the allegations were confirmed."
Those who attack police officers or who oppose measures taken by the police, "can also expect them to fight back," Kusterer told the German press agency.
“And that's the way it is.” Particularly stressful are people who are under the influence of drugs and alcohol, who pose a danger to themselves and the general public.
"Also because persuasion doesn't usually help there," explained the union's deputy head of the federal government.
