A powerful storm has swept through the beaches of Northern California, causing waterlogged roads, fallen trees and mudflows in areas that have experienced recent wildfires in the state.
Sky News reported that a high level of moisture from the Pacific Ocean accompanied heavy rain and high winds, and flooding swept through the San Francisco Bay area, blocking streets in Berkeley and inundating Bay Bridge Square in Oakland.
About 241 kilometers north, the California Highway Patrol closed an interstate highway in Pat County due to mudslides in the Kaldor Fire District.
The Oroville Highway Patrol Bureau reported many crashes due to skidding vehicles, falling trees, and flooding many roads.
In southern San Francisco, evacuation orders were issued in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and in parts of western Santa Barbara County, evacuation warnings were also issued.
Winds are expected to intensify, reaching a speed of 97 kilometers per hour, in the coming hours.
The recent storms helped contain some of the largest wildfires in the country this year.
