The man's ex-wife has been on trial in Munich since 2019 - now the verdict has been passed against her.

Munich - The Munich Higher Regional Court sentenced ISIS returnees Jennifer W. to ten years in prison on Monday (October 25, 2021). The verdict came after around two and a half years of trial for membership in a foreign terrorist organization and crimes against humanity in the case of an enslaved and killed child. It was about the case of a five-year-old Yazidi girl.

According to the indictment, W. had kept the child together with her husband - a former IS fighter on trial in Frankfurt am Main - in 2015 as a slave in the territory of the IS in Syria and let it die of thirst in the heat.

The judges viewed this as a crime against humanity, including, in one case, enslavement resulting in death.

The federal prosecutor had demanded a life sentence for the accused in court.

IS returnees deny responsibility for the death of the child

During the trial in the Bavarian capital, W., who traveled to Iraq in 2014, did not deny that she had joined the Islamic State (IS) jihadist militia at the time.

However, she denied that she was jointly responsible for the death of the child.

Your defense lawyers pleaded for a suspended sentence of two years for the woman from Lohne in Lower Saxony.

According to the indictment, she and her husband Taha Al-J.

the child and his mother who had been taken prisoner of war bought at a slave market.

When the sick child wet himself, her husband is said to have chained him up in the sun at over 40 degrees Celsius without drinking water.

The child is said to have died of thirst, and W. is said not to have done anything about it.
