Thaw in sight in relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia

Tehran and Riyadh are conducting negotiations in Baghdad, under the aegis of the Iraqi prime minister, to bring about an appeasement in their quarrel.


In a Middle East where hotbeds of tension remain incandescent, this is the good news of recent months: the Iranian and Saudi enemies have been negotiating since the spring to calm their quarrel.

Four rounds of discussions, first secret and then fanned out in the press, took place in Baghdad in Iraq, thanks to the mediation of the former head of the intelligence services, who became prime minister, Moustapha Kazemi.
