In a Middle East where hotbeds of tension remain incandescent, this is the good news of recent months: the Iranian and Saudi enemies have been negotiating since the spring to calm their quarrel.
Four rounds of discussions, first secret and then fanned out in the press, took place in Baghdad in Iraq, thanks to the mediation of the former head of the intelligence services, who became prime minister, Moustapha Kazemi.

The two delegations are said to have met in his presence on September 21 at Baghdad airport.
Tehran was represented by General Ali Shamkhani, head of the Supreme National Security Council, the forum where strategic decisions are taken, and no longer by his deputy as during the first meeting on April 9;
Riyadh by the experienced Adel al-Joubeir, Minister of State in charge of Foreign Affairs, and no longer by the head of the intelligence services,
