University of Hamburg elects new president

The University of Hamburg is deciding this week who will succeed University President Prof. Dieter Lenzen in the coming year.

With more than 40,000 students, the University of Hamburg is one of the largest universities in Germany.

Prof. Lenzen's second term of office - he came to the Hanseatic City from the Free University of Berlin in 2010 - officially ends on February 28, 2022. The greatest success of the 73-year-old educational scientist is the appointment of the university as a "University of Excellence" in 2019.

Also during his term of office, even if Prof. Lenzen was not involved, the Physics Nobel Prize fell for Klaus Hasselmann, who turned 90 on Monday and, among other things, taught as a professor at the Institute for Geophysics.
