Unknown people blew up an ATM in Remscheid on Monday night and caused extensive property damage.
Local residents dialed the emergency number after hearing loud popping noises on the detached building, the police said.
Accordingly, two or three men were observed who fled with a "presumably highly motorized, dark vehicle".
Remscheid - The police searched - among other things with a helicopter - on Monday in vain for the perpetrators.
The building, which houses the ATM and an insurance branch, was badly damaged by the detonation.
There was also damage to vehicles parked nearby.
A structural engineer should now examine the building.
It was initially unclear whether the perpetrators were taking prey.
