Unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with explosives took part in an attack last week targeting the U.S. military base in Tanf.

U.S. officials said tonight (Monday through Tuesday) that Iran was behind the attack on the U.S. military base in Syria last week, the U.S. Associated Press reported.

According to the report, which was passed to the agency by a senior government official whose name was not disclosed, Washington believes that Iran is behind the attack and it was carried out on its instructions.

At the same time, the senior stressed that the unmanned aircraft that participated in it, were not launched from Iranian territory.

According to the US source, Iran helped prepare the infrastructure for the attack.

The source also said that five unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with explosives were involved in an attack that targeted the United States military base in Tanaf, in the border triangle between Syria, Iraq and Jordan.

Earlier Monday, Rob Mali, the Biden's special commissioner for the Iran issue and who has been working for months to return Iran to talks between the United States and Iran, said in a telephone briefing to dozens of journalists around the world that "the window to diplomacy will never close."

Mali claimed during the briefing that the powers were "at a critical time regarding the possibility of returning to the original nuclear deal," adding: "We believe the only solution to the nuclear problem is diplomatic. Iran says it wants to return to talks but does not. If it returns, it will not be too difficult "To the agreement, because all that is required is their compliance with the restrictions set by the nuclear agreement and the cancellation of the sanctions imposed by the international community, which are not within the framework of the agreement."
