Anti-fascists, Basque separatists, LGBT associations… Activists from all sides were present this Tuesday in Biarritz to protest

Passing through the Basque coast to promote his book, "France has not said its last word" (Rumbempré), the polemicist and possible candidate for the 2022 presidential election Eric Zemmour was welcomed in Biarritz under the boos of a crowd of demonstrators hostile to his coming.

Many associations and political groups were present on site, such as the left-wing independence party EH Bai, the LAB union, or even the Bascos, a Basque association which defends the rights of LGBT people.

On the signs, phrases such as “alde hemendik” (release, in Basque), or even “shame on you” were visible in the middle of rainbow or anti-fascist flags.

The mayor of Biarritz feared unrest

The sympathizers and readers of the multi-convicted person for "calling for hatred" and "public insults" were also received under the cries of the demonstrators, who did not hesitate to throw them eggs and to claim that "everyone hates fascists ”.

A large police presence was present on the scene to prevent overflows.

Zemmour wanted to do his signing meeting in the middle of Biarritz.

Initially, Eric Zemmour wanted to organize his meeting in the city center of Biarritz but the mayor Maider Arosteguy (LR) had refused him this request, fearing "disturbances to public order, in full vacation".

The writer was therefore finally asked to fall back on the Halle d'Iraty, a room with a capacity of 1,500 places, on the outskirts of the city.

In full promotional tour, Eric Zemmour would also have more and more difficulty in finding rooms accepting to welcome him.

“It is becoming more and more complicated to reserve places.

We are faced with cancellations when the name of Éric Zemmour is indicated, ”his teams told Le Télégramme, after having been forced to cancel his visit to Vannes (Morbihan) on October 30.
