Guest of Jean-Jacques Bourdin this Tuesday morning on BFMTV and RMC, the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, returned to the rise in energy prices which is affecting all of Europe.
While the French government has proposed an inflation compensation of 100 euros targeting the most vulnerable, Thierry Breton hailed a method "
which goes in the right direction
" and which has also been adopted by a dozen other Member States, has t he called back.

According to him, this check is more relevant than the reduction in taxes because it is more direct: “
it goes directly into the pocket of households
”.
The measure would also allow more precise targeting: "
it is important to help the most vulnerable households
," he said.

There are roughly 16 to 18 million people in fuel poverty in Europe.
They must be targeted as a priority
”.

This pressure on energy prices will last this winter, we must prepare for it
" warned the European Commissioner.
Unimaginable to do without nuclear power by 2050
In the longer term, the European Commissioner mentioned the decoupling of gas and energy prices as a line of thought.
While 9 member states disagreed with the measure proposed by France, Thierry Breton welcomed the French initiative.
The negotiations should therefore continue: "
We have asked the European Energy Agency to study the evolution of the energy context with regard to the Green Deal,
" he detailed.
On the purchase of common gas, Thierry Breton was more skeptical: "

Finally, nuclear power appears, according to him, as essential to the French energy mix: "

He insisted, however, on the need to vary the sources of energy: “
Renewable must be increased very significantly.
But at the same time, it is necessary to have the capacity to respond to the vagaries of the climate in order to be able to supply electricity permanently
