At least 18 people were killed and others wounded in an attack by armed men on a mosque in Niger state, northern Nigeria.
Reuters quoted local sources as saying that gunmen riding motorbikes stormed a mosque in the Maza Coca neighborhood of Mashigo district and opened fire on worshipers, killing at least 18 people and wounding about twenty, and kidnapped more than ten others.
Armed gangs operating for money have kidnapped or killed hundreds across northwest Nigeria this year, but officials in Niger state recently said the extremist group Boko Haram had taken over multiple communities in the state and offered villagers money to lure them into their ranks and fight the government.
