The North Rhine-Westphalian police now have 32,000 service smartphones in use.
This emerges from an interim balance of the NRW interior ministry on the digitization of the police for the state parliament, which is available to the German press agency.
Düsseldorf - While the first 12,000 service smartphones were distributed to police officers in 2019, a further 10,000 devices were purchased in 2020 and 10,000 smartphones in 2021, increasing the number to 32,000.
Several apps for police work are being developed in addition to the existing digital tools.
Since 2018, around 1,000 police officers have been able to switch to teleworking through secure remote access, according to the report.
By April 2020, more than 2000 additional notebooks had been made available to enable more work from the home office.
