A major US trade group has warned the White House that President Joe Biden's vaccination order will force employers to lay off thousands of workers, making the supply chain crisis afflicting America and other countries much worse.

According to CNN, the National Association of Wholesalers and Distributors, an influential trade group representing a sector of about 6 million workers, has appealed to the US administration to postpone the December 8 deadline for federal contractor employees to obtain the vaccination.

The association revealed that supply chains are under severe pressure at the present time thanks to severe congestion in ports, a shortage of truck drivers and a lack of storage containers, as the crisis caused prices to rise on consumers, limiting options for shoppers and causing significant delays.

The association said: "In the month of December, many companies will not be able to continue to move products through their warehouses and distribution centers to meet the increasing consumer demand if they are forced to terminate the work of these essential workers."

The association explained that “if tens or hundreds of thousands of employees are terminated just two weeks before Christmas, the result could be catastrophic for the new jobless, their families and the American economy,” calling to avoid this disaster, President Biden to provide alternatives, including testing and consideration of a short-term delay. In implementing the vaccination decision so as to avoid further disruption in supply chains.

The decree signed by the US President last month states that contractor employees who deal with the federal government must be vaccinated against the Corona virus, with no option to be tested regularly.

The US Department of Labor confirmed a few days ago that the pace of employees leaving their jobs reached a record level last August, with the increasing resignation of bar and restaurant employees, as well as retail employees, as the number of employees resigning reached a historically high level not seen in the United States since the start of data collection, where it recorded the resignation of 4.3 million employees from their work.
