A small filter ensures that the streets are flooded

A small filter poses big problems for three communities in the district: Because it clogs so quickly, Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn, Oberhaching and Schäftlarn have to struggle with flooded roads and paths in heavy rain.

Solutions are now being sought in cooperation with the road construction authority.

District

- “Land unter” was the motto several times this year at the roundabout at the Friedenseiche in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn.

The rainy year revealed a huge problem there: If too much precipitation falls, the water at the roundabout, which was built two years ago at the intersection of Rosenheimer Strasse / Münchner Strasse and Bahnhofstrasse, does not drain properly.

This leads to not inconsiderable floods.

Not only were areas of the adjacent sidewalk repeatedly flooded, the water even ran into Rosenheimer Strasse, sometimes right up to the front door of the “Feuer & Stein” restaurant.

Constipated again within two days

The problem isn't the drainage system itself, but a small part of it. “Filters are built into the gullies that are so fine that they filter out the smallest particles, but they also clog up very quickly,” explains Mayor Mindy Konwitschny. As soon as the filters are clogged, "nothing more runs off". Now you can of course clean the filters, but according to Konwitschny, the road maintenance department is responsible for this and is not on site immediately. In addition, the filters would have to be cleaned very often. As the mayor said, the filters had already been cleaned, "but were full again within two days". Therefore, in their opinion, another solution must be found - namely by the responsible authority, the Freising State Building Authority,to which the community has meanwhile presented itself.

They know the problem there.

"In the district of Munich we have three places where the special filters prevent the water from draining off quickly enough during heavy rain, because the filters are clogged with fine particles," said authority spokesman Thomas Jakob.

“Land unter” is also the name of the game on the B 11 in Hohenschäftlarn since the main road was expanded three years ago, as well as on Münchner Strasse in Oberhaching.

The road construction authority has found a solution for the B11

According to Jakob, a solution has now been found for the B 11. “There the filters are removed and the shaft is converted into a sedimentation shaft by means of an immersion pipe that holds back light materials. A new filter layer will be installed in the downstream drainage shaft to remove pollutants from the water, ”explains the spokesman for the Freising State Building Authority.

Whether this solution can also be implemented in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn is currently being examined.

"In any case, we have to coordinate with the Munich District Office and the Water Management Office before replacing or converting the system," emphasizes Jakob.

Because a structural change would first have to be approved under water law.

It is not possible to simply replace it, because the drainage system as a whole has to ensure that the water drains off quickly on the one hand, and that the water is adequately cleaned on the other hand before it seeps into the ground, he explains.

No costs for the communities

But what happens in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn until a solution has been found? "Until then, the Riem road maintenance depot will ensure that the shafts are cleaned regularly," says Jakob. If the roundabout actually needs to be rebuilt, the municipality would not incur any costs. "The roundabout with the road drainage belongs to the M 10 district road," explains the spokesman for the authorities. The Munich district, as the road construction agency, would therefore bear the costs of converting the road drainage system.

The district is also responsible for the flooding on Münchner Strasse in Oberhaching.

After all, it is also a district road there.

According to the Oberhachingen building authority, the water in the area of the Lanzenhaarer Straße bus stop and the sidewalks leading to the cemetery was mainly in the spring and summer.

In the meantime, the road construction authority has become active there.

Now the church is waiting to see if the situation has improved.
