The new volume “Asterix and the Greif” casts its spell over fans - many discuss it, others share their bizarre discoveries.

Munich - The new "Asterix" band is out and, as always, a big event for fans.

Many have already secured the issue on the day of publication (October 21) and / or spend the weekend with it.

Some are already through.

“The new Asterix band is quite successful: an adventurous journey, funny secondary characters and a few satirical allusions with current reference.

Worth reading, ”says Twitter user“ Nor Bert ”, praising the story.

"Asterix and the Griffin": Hamster doesn't look like hamster

"I look forward to it every time!", Another user reports and shows his achievement.

"Dont disturb me.

I've got work to do ... ”, another fan requests a photo of the issue.

The Asterix fans also let out small details on Twitter.

One finds - see below, that the hamster bears little resemblance to a hammer.

.. uhh.

So this is what hamsters look like?

"Asterix and the Griffin": One of the characters is called "Fakenius"

“Asterix and the Greif” is the name of the new band - and beyond the story it obviously offers a lot of little gags that are waiting to be discovered.

A reader discovered one of these in the French-language edition: The creators actually gave a character the name "Fakenius".

The similarity to the term "fake news" is almost certainly no coincidence - because Fakenius spreads rumors.

"Brilliant" and "I love it", users respond to the bizarre allusion.

The new Astérix features a character called Fakenews… and he spreads rumors.

The comic heroes Asterix and Obelix travel to the territory of Russia for the first time in their new adventure. In “Asterix and the Griffin” a shaman from the ancient Sarmatian tribe appears to old Miraculix in a dream and asks him to come. Because a prophecy promised the Sarmatians: "Help comes from the Gauls, especially from the smallest of them." The druid then sets off with Asterix and Obelix into the vastness of the snow-covered steppe, the heroes have never been so far east.

Of course, the first clash with Caesar's Legion will soon take place.

Because the scheming ruler of Rome wants to have a legendary animal kidnapped for his circus games: the sacred griffin of the Sarmatians, a hybrid creature, half eagle and half lion.

The Romans ruthlessly take a hostage and have no inkling of the consequences.

“Asterix and the Griffin” is the 39th Asterix adventure and the fifth collaborative effort by the French Jean-Yves Ferri (text) and Didier Conrad (drawings).

"Asterix and the Griffin": First album after Albert Uderzo's death

It is also the first album to be released after the death of the original "Asterix" artist Albert Uderzo. The sketches and drafts had still been submitted to the old master. Uderzo died in March 2020 at the age of 92. He had already retired years before as "Asterix" manager. In 2011 Ferri and Conrad replaced him in this role. Uderzo had created the characters Asterix and Obelix in 1959 with the author René Goscinny. After his sudden death in 1977, Uderzo went on alone for decades.

"With the new tape, I thought that we had strayed furthest from the style of Goscinny and Uderzo," said Ferri in a dpa interview.

“But now the first reactions are coming from people who have already read the comic.

And they tell me: "This is the band with which you have come closest to the old style so far." So that's a very subjective thing. "The comic has an international initial circulation of five million copies.
