Gmund - Beni Eisenburg from Gmund has made a name for himself in various ways for the Tegernsee valley.

Now he is an honorary citizen.

Deeply connected to tradition, Beni Eisenburg has made a particularly good contribution to Gmund, the Tegernsee Valley and the region as an archivist, folklorist, chronicler, cultural ambassador and source of inspiration. At a ceremony with around 50 guests, the 86-year-old was now awarded the honorary citizenship of his home community. Companions, cultural workers, clergymen and representatives of the communal institutions had come to the auditorium of the elementary school to pay tribute to him and his wife Hannelore, to thank him personally and to celebrate together.

"The appointment as an honorary citizen is the highest distinction that the community bestows", stated Gmunds Mayor Alfons Besel at the beginning.

He explained that honorary citizenship is only granted to personalities who have rendered outstanding services to the community and its citizens in a particularly exceptional and meritorious manner.

Archives and home curator in Gmund

How much this was always the case with Beni Eisenburg was shown by Besel in his speech, the tone of which expressed respect, appreciation and personal solidarity.

Besel paid tribute to Eisenburg as archivist and home curator and pointed out that the local history networker had repeatedly brought valuable evidence of Gmund's local history, documents and documents to light.

The mayor also valued the work of the practical craftsman who, as a (costume) master tailor, always sewed a small slot for matches in the suit jacket so that the wearer could always light a light.

Eisenburg's commitment as a cemetery guide, who saved historic wrought-iron crosses, which today bear witness to the local burial culture and the blacksmithing trade, was greatly appreciated by the Gmund community leader.

Driving force in folk music

Eisenburg distinguishes himself as a source of inspiration, as a researcher in the field of folk music, folk dance, literature and Bavarian cultural assets, Besel emphasized and continued with his appreciative words. These were valid for the chronicler and esteemed author for his folklore contributions in books, magazines, newspapers, specialist journals, in the parish news and for radio broadcasts. At the same time, however, also the speaker and organizer of singers 'and musicians' meetings, Advent and Passion singing as well as club festivals.

Eisenburg has also made a name for himself as a moderator of around 900 folk music events and readings, as a dance master of more than 850 folk dance evenings and as a cultural ambassador.

"You not only care for the language and keep the stories, you live your connection to your Bavarian homeland," said Besel full of praise.

Received numerous honors

The mayor listed all the honors that Eisenburg has already received - from the district medal for outstanding commitment in the field of culture, homeland care and music to the Cross of Merit on ribbon, the Kiem-Pauli medal in gold and the Waldemar Rausch Prize towards the citizen medal of the community of Gmund.

In addition to Eisenburg's subtlety, Besel also praised his restrained modesty and quiet, reserved demeanor.

“Beni, you make us aware of the treasures we are guarding here and make us rich with them.

You inspire us for our traditions and thus give us a home.

And the best of all: You give joy and make people happy. "

Thanks to his wife Hannelore

To Eisenburg himself, the enumeration of his services seemed almost a little too much of praise.

Rather, he referred to earlier comrades-in-arms such as Fred Rauch, Hans Schachtner, Sepp Holzer, Sepp Fischhaber and Waldemar Rausch, with whom he played theater, staged apostle plays and Advent singing and wrote the Gmund booklets.

"We did it with each other, out of joy and on our own," clarified the new dignitary.

He thanked his wife, who was always at his side, and the community of Gmund for the high honor.
