The Berlin state companies got through the Corona year 2020 well overall, but some of them had to receive strong financial support from the state.
"Some state companies have been severely affected by Corona," said Finance Senator Matthias Kollatz (SPD) on Tuesday at the presentation of the overall report for 2020. That is why the state and federal government have given a large amount of help here.
Berlin - For example, 111 million euros flowed to the Berlin-Brandenburg airport company in corona aid and 85 million euros to the trade fair.
The Charité received 58 million euros of such aid, the Vivantes hospital group 35 million euros.
In total, all state participations achieved a surplus of 232 million euros in 2020 - with total sales of around 8.7 billion euros.
The balance was thus significantly lower than in previous years (2019: 492.5 million euros, 2018: 701.0 million euros).
The largest profit maker was the water company with a profit of 281.5 million euros.
Despite state aid, the largest loss was incurred by the airport company with 391.4 million euros - due to a very marked drop in passenger numbers.
The State of Berlin is wholly or partially involved in 55 companies with around 52,000 employees.
Seven of them made losses in 2020 (2019: 13), the remainder a profit.
Kollatz rated the investment volume of the companies as gratifying, which at 3.6 billion euros in 2020 was below the record level of 2019 (5.1 billion euros), but significantly higher than in previous years.

Three billion euros in corona economic aid flowed
During the Corona crisis, around three billion euros in economic aid for companies and the self-employed in Saxony have flowed so far this year and last.
This included loans and grants, said Minister of Economics Martin Dulig (SPD) on Thursday in the state parliament in Dresden.
The Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB) processed almost 200,000 applications for this.

Hanover's Lord Mayor Belit Onay has called for a new way of dealing with the municipalities in view of the upcoming coalition negotiations in the federal government.
“The federal government and the states like to work with subsidies because they think they have more control,” said the Green politician of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (Saturday).
"However, the whole thing is often very bureaucratic."

A state-owned company that suffers badly from Corona is also the BVG with its buses and subways.
Nonetheless, it even shows a slight plus of around 400,000 euros on the balance sheet in 2020.
In addition to the usual state grants, according to the tax authorities, the company has not yet received any corona aid, but has received a financing commitment of 144 million euros.
