The impact of the great winter storm in numbers
New Jersey is bracing for a long storm that will last through the night with strong winds in the afternoon and evening, Gov. Phil Murphy said Tuesday.
Here's a look at how the storm has impacted the state so far:
There were 10 counties under a flood warning Tuesday, representing about 6.3 million residents, while 11 counties are under a flood warning advisory, according to Murphy.
As of Tuesday morning, there are about 3,200 power outages across the state, he said, but stressed that the outages are expected to fluctuate throughout the day as higher wind speeds are expected in the afternoon.
So far, most of the state has received about three centimeters of rain, while coastal areas have received about two inches.
Murphy also said that winds in inland areas are expected to be around 72 to 90 km / h, with coastal areas hovering between 100 and 160 km / h.
State police have responded to 188 accidents and 81 calls for help from motorists so far, State Police Superintendent Col. Patrick Callahan said, asking people to stay off the road if they could.
When asked if Hurricane Ida changed his mindset by preparing for future storms like this one, Murphy said that every storm is different with different conditions.

More than a dozen rescues reported in New Jersey
Police search and rescue vehicles are traversing the floodwaters in Union Beach, New Jersey caused by the major winter storm on the east coast of the United States.
Police Chief Michael J. Woodrow said the vehicles have been used overnight with his fire and emergency services partners to conduct more than a dozen water rescues since heavy rains and flooding began to affect the region.
No injuries were reported in any of the rescues and no one has required first aid or hospital care, Woodrow said.
“Fortunately, our highly trained agents can reach areas traditionally inaccessible with these vehicles, especially when time is of the essence.
Our playbook was created from the lessons learned from Hurricane Sandy, as well as other weather events, ”Woodrow said.
Woodrow added that the city has received "countless" calls for service and several vehicles have been submerged in the water.
The police chief said his officers are "more than prepared to deal with each and every emergency," given the city's past experience with severe weather.
