In Hong Kong, the culture of sustainable development and recycling is still in the development stage.

However, the usage of plastic bottles in Hong Kong is higher than that of other countries.

Compared with the 89% recycling rate of plastic bottles in Japan and 97% in Norway, the recycling rate of plastic bottles in Hong Kong is only less than 14%, and it is decreasing year by year.

In order to let students understand the importance of recycling resources and cultivate their creative thinking, Le Shan Tang Leung Wong Wai Fong Memorial School participated in the Mitsubishi Electric (Hong Kong) and Little Light Art Project to implement the "Creative and Environmental Friendly Spirits" in 2021. (Creative Sustainability-kids 100) project to increase students' interest in "environmental conservation" and "creative".

The students learned about the importance of sustainable development and resource recycling by learning about the global usage of plastic bottles and participating in workshops using plastic bottles to create handicrafts.

In addition, students participating in the program can bring messages to their families and spread environmental awareness to those around them.

After the course is over, students use the plastic bottle sword ball they made in the workshop to practice hard and challenge how many times they can successfully throw the ball into the cup in one minute.

They shoot short videos to participate in the one-minute sword ball challenge (preliminary), and then select 24 students from them to participate in the online sword ball competition (final).

After five rounds of competition, the winner was determined. Our school’s student Zhang Kaicheng won the runner-up with 28 points.

Student Zhang is really happy to be the runner-up because he has never been in contact with Sword Ball before, but after getting to know Sword Ball in this workshop, he felt very interested, so he practiced hard every day before the competition, and he could not expect to get good results. .

In addition to the online swordsmanship competition, the works of a hundred selected Hong Kong primary school students were arranged to display their plastic bottle hand-mades to the public in an online exhibition.

In the end, the students received backpacks and eco bags made from 100% recycled plastic bottles as winning prizes and souvenirs.

Yunting Zhen, a third-grade student, thinks that in the workshop, she learned that waste plastic bottles can be used for many purposes. She also enjoys the process of using plastic bottles to create works or toys. The most important thing is to understand the meaning of recycling.

Teacher Zhang Chuwen of our school is also very happy to see students use creative thinking in the workshop to produce works, learn how to think and solve problems on their own, and realize that environmental protection can be in their own hands.

Teacher Zhang also hopes to promote the content of this project to all students in the school.

Creative Sustainability-kids 100 (Creative Sustainability-kids 100) is a project about environmental education and plastic bottle craft creation workshops.

In response to the epidemic situation at the beginning of the year, Hong Kong elementary school students from different schools were invited to participate in online workshops to learn how to make windmills, sword balls and cars from discarded plastic bottles.

In the classroom part of the workshop, our colleagues learned the impact of discarded plastic bottles on the ocean, and the students also created works related to marine life.

The students used discarded plastic bottles and discarded packaging bags or waste paper at home to create various forms of marine life.

It is hoped that the message of "Looking forward to the future of discarded plastic bottles and garbage can disappear from the ocean, and the ocean can restore the ecological balance" from the work.
