RoboCop was earlier.

Now it's the turn of the robotic waiter in a restaurant on the Baltic Sea.

With the new service force, the boss wants to alleviate the shortage of staff.

There is a similar attempt in Munich.

Grömitz / Munich - Innkeeper Tim Bornewasser wants to counteract the staff shortage in the catering industry with unusual means.

In his restaurant in the Baltic Sea resort of Grömitz, the robot “Bella” has been bringing the dishes for a few days.

The speaking machine should by no means replace human service staff, emphasized Bornewasser.

For example, "Bella" can relieve colleagues from walking between the kitchen and the dining room, for example, and thus noticeably relieve the strain, he said.

Robot waiter: Positive feedback

Bornewasser said he had the idea of purchasing the robot during the Corona crisis when many service staff turned their backs in the lockdown of the catering trade.

“That cannot be compensated for with more rest days alone, which is why we are now relying on technology,” said the restaurant owner.

Thanks to a sophisticated navigation system, "Bella" moves purposefully in the room, cleverly avoids obstacles and also communicates with the guests.

The initial reactions from his visitors are positive, said Bornewasser, who opened his restaurant in the Grömitz marina eight years ago.

Corona causes Kiel's financial crisis to grow

The corona pandemic has noticeably worsened the budget situation in the Schleswig-Holstein state capital, Kiel.

This is shown in the draft budget for 2022, which Mayor Ulf Kämpfer (SPD) and treasurer Cristian Zierau presented on Thursday.

The city plans with revenues of 1.120 billion euros and expenditures of 1.209 billion euros.

According to Bornewasser, the service robot cost around 20,000 euros.

“He doesn't need a vacation for that, never gets sick and can theoretically be on duty seven days a week.

I assume that it will pay for itself after 120 days, ”he said.

Munich: There are already service robots in Bavaria too

If you want to be operated by a robot, you don't necessarily have to go to the Baltic Sea.

There is already a restaurant in Munich where the food is no longer served by people.

The Asian restaurant even advertises it on its website.

There it says: "We use service robots to reduce the risk of corona infection."
