Flooded B265 free again from Tuesday

The federal highway 265 near Erftstadt, which was badly hit by the flood, is to be opened again on Tuesday after being closed for more than three months.

At the same time, Autobahn GmbH, Rhineland branch, is releasing the Erftstadt junction on the A61 to Koblenz.

In the direction of Venlo, the A61 will probably remain closed until the end of the year due to flood damage, said a spokesman for the Autobahn GmbH.

Erftstadt - Individual areas of the federal highway 265 were free again at the end of August, but a certain section had to be partially rebuilt, as a spokeswoman for the State Office for Road Construction in North Rhine-Westphalia said.

On Tuesday morning, workers will start clearing away beacons.

Presumably around noon, the B265 can then be used again.

Rescue of the "Moornixe" is postponed to Thursday

The salvage of the sunken excursion ship "Moornixe" in Mülheim an der Ruhr, which is planned for Wednesday, will be postponed by one day.

The flood tore away embankments, water softened the substructure and partly the asphalt surface. Noise barriers could not withstand the water pressure and collapsed. More than 100 vehicles were locked in but could be recovered. Miraculously, no dead were found.

According to the spokeswoman, the assessment of the damage on the ground and from a height of around 200 meters with an unmanned airship took a long time: "Each section was really damaged differently".

There are still isolated work to be done on the federal highway, but this no longer has to be blocked.

Special noise protection walls will be renewed in the next few weeks, and the drainage basin is not yet completely finished.

According to the spokeswoman, the previous costs to repair the damage totaled around two million euros.
