This is how the fatal shot would have happened on the set of "Rust" 0:40
(CNN) -
Halyna Hutchins died doing what she loved on the set of the movie "Rust."
And that love reciprocates as colleagues and friends remember the journalist-turned-director of photography, who died after Alec Baldwin, star and executive producer of the film, fired a prop gun on the set in New Mexico last week. .
Hutchins was 42 years old.
The film's director, Joel Souza, 48, was also injured during the incident.
Assistant director of "Rust" (who gave the gun to Alec Baldwin) was fired from another film for an incident with a rifle
Hutchins participated in a Blackmagic Collective live broadcast in April, where she spoke about her filmmaking.
"I like stories that [are] rooted in reality or real characters, but my favorite part is actually creating the world where the story will exist," he said.

The trip to hollywood
Originally from Ukraine, Hutchins grew up on a Soviet military base in the Arctic Circle, "surrounded by reindeer and nuclear submarines," according to her website.
He obtained a postgraduate degree in International Journalism from the Kiev National University.
He worked as an investigative journalist with British documentary productions in Europe, where he made documentaries for the BBC and Discovery before moving to New York City.
"In New York I really got into photography," Hutchins said in an interview with the topic "Why Women Stand Out in Hollywood," posted on YouTube in June.
"Fashion photography, I did a lot and I just wanted to make art movies, really. Just something really large-scale, beautiful, just art movies."
His 'calling'
"When I moved to Los Angeles, I tried to imagine what the next step would be," he said.
"Where do you start when you don't know anyone? Where do you start?"
That led to a UCLA extension course to direct "just to get my feet soaked," Hutchins recalled.
He quickly realized that he loved cinematography more than directing.
"I shot like 15 shorts there," he said.
"I kept doing photography and I thought that was probably my calling."
In love with the American Film Institute
Hutchins worked with a lighting company and later attended what she called "the best institution for my profession," the American Film Institute (AFI) Conservatory, graduating in 2015.
After her death, actor Jensen Ackles, who worked with Hutchins on "Rust," posted on Instagram that he had donated to an AFI scholarship fund on her behalf.
"At the beginning of last week, I felt compelled to tell Halyna how amazing I thought she was. I told her how amazing I thought her camera shots were and how exciting it was to watch her and her team work," he wrote.
"Really. She laughed and thanked me and gave me a hug. I will always be grateful that I had that moment."

How you chose your projects
During the Blackmagic Collective livestream, Hutchins shared what attracted him to different movies.
"The character foundation is the most exciting part for me," he said.
"If I can go on a journey with the characters. The genre doesn't really matter, it's just the environment you create around it to convey the journey of the character."
"If I want to see this movie, I would like to do it," he said.
When asked during the "Why Women Stand Out in Hollywood" interview what attracted her to filmmaking, Hutchins had an honest answer.
"It sure is a passion," he said.
"Once you catch it, you can't get rid of it."
