Damascus-SANA

The Director of Communicable and Chronic Diseases at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Zuhair Al-Sahwi, confirmed that the Corona vaccines available in Syria are safe, effective, and recommended to prevent the virus or reduce the severity of infection if it occurs.

In a statement to Sana Bin Al-Sahwi, the vaccine is recommended for the elderly and patients with high blood pressure and diabetes without the need to stop their medications, and he said: There are no global recommendations to stop the medications that the patient takes before or after taking the vaccine in general, and in the event of any special medical condition, the patient is advised to consult His specialist doctor who monitors his health condition.

Al-Sahwi explained that there are specific groups of people who are advised not to be given the vaccine until their medical condition stabilizes. They are acquired immunodeficiency patients, organ transplant patients, patients with tumors who undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy, patients with severe immune diseases, and people who take immunosuppressants and cortisone medications for long periods.

Al-Sahwi indicated that there is only very little data available to assess the safety of vaccines for pregnant and lactating women, and no explicit recommendations have been issued for them, although there are countries that allow this group to recommend in order to protect them by vaccinating people who are in direct contact with them and within their surroundings.

With regard to allergy patients, there is no objection to taking the vaccine except for the presence of an allergy to any component of the vaccine, which is something that can be known when receiving the first dose. In this case, the person is not given the second dose and is given an exemption paper.
