One person hiking in Colorado was missing for 24 hours but ignored phone calls from rescuers because he "did not recognize the number," local authorities reported last week.

The person, whose identity is not known, was reported missing around 8 p.m. on Oct. 18, according to a statement from the Lake County Search and Rescue organization.

The alert made sure that the missing person had started the excursion on Mount Elbert from the South Trailhead at 9 in the morning and had not returned in the afternoon.

The Lake County Rescue Service searched several areas for the person, but could not find him.

"

The multiple attempts to contact her through her mobile phone were unsuccessful,

" he said in a statement.

The person returned home on October 19, more than 24 hours after starting the walk.

"He stated that he had run off the road around dusk and spent the night looking for him and, once there, he went through different trails trying to locate the right one. He finally reached his car the next morning," authorities said.

"

I had no idea they were looking for her,

" they added.

"A notable fact is that the person ignored the repeated telephone calls we made to him because he did not recognize the number," the statement continues, "if you lose your itinerary and start receiving repeated calls from an unknown number, please answer the phone It could be a rescue team trying to confirm you're safe! ”

"Please

remember that what seems like common sense in hindsight is not obvious to a subject at the time that they are lost and panicky,

" authorities responded in a comment, "in Colorado, most people who pass time outdoors has a good understanding of the rescue infrastructure that is there to assist them, but that is not the case across the country. Please keep your comments respectful. "
