And now captain Maria Breitenberger, two-time goalscorer in the 2: 4 against the table runner-up DJK Geratskirchen, is out due to an injury. “The game wasn't nearly as clear as the result,” complains coach Nico Weis.
MTV had the first big chance. After a corner kick from Zoe Klein, Julia Stapff put the ball just over the goal. After ten minutes, the women from Dießen had a huge chance: Youngster Katharina Hack took courage and pulled from 30 meters, but her shot hit the inside post and Klein's margin went over the goal. In the middle of the first half, however, "eleven desolate MTV minutes" followed, according to Weis, in which the guests took a 3-0 lead through Lisa Moser (20th), Sandra Utzschmid (22nd) and Lena Steinleitner (31st). The ball wriggled three times in the Kreuzeck, the MTV girls put themselves on the loser's road. The coach: "We made catastrophic individual mistakes for a quarter of an hour".
But what Dießen offered after the break was more than remarkable. From the first minute on, the hosts put Geratskirchen under pressure and created opportunities. The guests, completely in "management mode", hardly found their way into the game. Result: In the 52nd minute, captain Maria Breitenberger converted a free-kick cross from Julia Stapff to 1: 3. Just four minutes later, Breitenberger met again from a corner from Klein to make it 2: 3. Shortly afterwards it was Klein after a cross from Andrea Bichler who put the ball past the goalkeeper, but a Geratskirchen defender was able to clear just before the line.
MTV coach Weis brought another attacker with Jacky Behr and was still dangerous. But 20 minutes before the end, an "annoying action" decided the game, regrets Weis. Geratskirchen's top scorer Utzschmid hit MTV central defender Antonia Liebl in the face during a backward movement. Liebl went to the ground, Utzschmid started with the ball and sank the ball into the goal to make it 2: 4 (71st). All protests went unheard, the game was decided. Breitenberger: "That was a clear foul in the middle of our race to catch up."
And 13 minutes later it got even more bitter when double goal scorer Breitenberger was injured after a kick in the Achilles tendon and had to be replaced by Hannah Zernikow.
It will probably fail for now.
