A good one and a half months before the planned commissioning of the electrified southern runway, the work is on schedule.

A spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn announced on Tuesday that the technical test drives on the route between Ulm, Friedrichshafen and Lindau were successful.

Further test drives with operational regional and long-distance trains are planned for the end of November.

Ulm - Before the new electrified route goes into operation for the timetable change on December 12, trees would have to be felled along the tracks in Ulm and plants would have to be cut back on the Danube Cycle Path, the spokeswoman said.

The bike path will therefore be closed for a few days this week.

To replace the felled trees, Deutsche Bahn plans to plant 15 new trees elsewhere.

The electrification of the southern runway began in March 2018, and the costs are estimated at around 370 million euros.

Thanks to the overhead lines, the trains should travel at up to 160 kilometers per hour.

Passengers no longer have to change between Lake Constance and Stuttgart, and connections to international connections in Lindau in Bavaria and Bregenz in Austria are to be improved.
