Memmingen - Last May, the city council had a 14-person climate team made up of representatives from the city council groups and administrative experts. As early as April, before this decision, the ÖDP parliamentary group suggested that the parliamentary groups should also be able to send external experts who are not on the city council to the new body. At the opening meeting of the climate team in July, an agreement was reached on this.

Nevertheless, the city council had to make another decision last Monday (October 18, 2021), as the original composition of the body was decided by name.

After a brief debate, the city council complied with this: the parliamentary groups now have the option of filling their seat with external actors.

In addition, the city council decides that members of the administration who belong to the climate team will be redesignated or appointed by the mayor if there is a change in personnel.

Climate team is no longer an internal body

The city's climate protection and energy manager Mario Hönisch initially pointed out that the climate team would then no longer be an internal body.

It would be feared that internal matters relating to climate activities could no longer be discussed impartially.

There would also be a very high risk that there would be frequent membership changes, should other parliamentary groups also have the idea of appointing someone they trust as a permanent member of the team.

Send the most competent people to the “climate team”

Michael Hartge (ÖDP) explained that the regulations of the “European Energy Awards” were a prerequisite for Memmingen's membership of such a climate team; Prof. Dr. Dieter Buchberger (Greens / Left) joined in and demanded that "the most competent people should be sent to this body". After all, other advisory bodies in the city also have external members. Matthias Reßler (SPD) also supported the recommendation of the ÖDP, as an agreement had already been reached at the first meeting of the committee. The proposed change was finally decided unanimously.

From now on, Wolfgang Friedl from the district executive committee of the ÖDP will be a member of the climate team for the ÖDP city council member.

Friedl is the owner, founder and managing director of SONATECH GmbH + Co. KG.

The company from Ungerhausen is one of the leading providers of technical acoustics and noise protection throughout Germany and is already one hundred percent climate-neutral.

In the future, the climate team will have the following members:

  • Lord Mayor Manfred Schilder

    ,

    Michael Ruppert (Deputy: Horst Holas),

  • SPD:

    Fabian Nieder (deputy: Verena Gotzes),
