2021-10-26T21:07:39.784Z

Ofra Shuraki was only 10 years old when her father was killed in a car accident: "The missing one still accompanies me" • Today, as a traffic education teacher, she shares her story with the class - and asks to meet the driver who hurt the father • "Irresponsible driving can shake life, a car can become a tool Weapon"

The teacher lost her father in an accident - and made traffic education the mission of her life.

Ofra Shuraki was only 10 years old when her late father Shimon Kafta was killed more than 30 years ago in a car accident.

Now, as a traffic education teacher at Alma Emuna Studio, she has set herself the goal of teaching how to behave properly on the road not just to pass a theory, and shares her personal story.

"It was Lag B'Omer.

"Dad promised to come back from work and take us for a family outing because he was on vacation," recalls Shuraki, who teaches at the Faith Studio in the Arts in Jerusalem, on the day he changed her life. Apparently tired after a white night. "

Ofra Shuraki and her late father Shimon,

Her father, who was then only 42 with three children at home, was killed on the spot due to a neck injury.

"I remember they took my mother to a hospital, probably to identify him, and the house was filled with people from the community where we lived - by then I realized my father would not return. It was a case that shook our lives. Life without a father was challenging, and the feeling of lack accompanies us to this day." , She added.

Ofra later became a physical education teacher, and in recent years she has been a traffic education teacher.

"I received the teaching of the traffic education profession as a sign from heaven," she says.

"I see teaching the profession as a real mission, especially as a life-saving mission. At some point I tell my personal story and its consequences and I believe it permeates the students' hearts. It makes them take the profession much more seriously. A car can also be a weapon, it can become "Life if you drive irresponsibly."

Requests to close circle

Today Ofra wants to close one last circle and meet the driver who hit her father's car: "I know his name and he lives in Ashdod. The accident happened on May 4, 1988. I would like to meet him and hear from him what was there and how it affected him. I wish I could move with him. "Talks to the students, who will see both sides of the story. Let him tell his story, what happened to him as such a young man and where did life take him."
