For Marcel Schrötter from Pflugdorf on Sunday at the Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna in Misano (Italy) with 15th place, it was enough to just one World Cup point.
“A little little for a lot of effort,” he looks back.
To blame for the unsatisfactory outcome of the race again: a fall in Saturday's qualifying and a near-crash in the race after contact with the Italian Marco Bezzecchi. After all: The Kalex driver from the Memmingen Liqui Moly Intact GP team was able to improve from 21st place on the grid to 15th place in the victory of Englishman Sam Lowes. In the overall World Championship standings, however, the 28-year-old from Pflugdorfer dropped one place two races before the end of the season. The meanwhile, “new season goal” of finishing the Moto2 World Championship in sixth place has already been missed. Even for a podium place - for the first time since Schrötter competed in Moto2 - it should not be enough this year.
“It quickly turned out that once again nothing would work out in our favor. It was less performance than unfortunate circumstances. After the start, I stuck in like a madman and also made up a few positions, ”says Schrötter. But then that: “It was on the second lap when Bezzecchi wanted to pierce the inside of a corner. I immediately closed the line and there was a contact. He even got stuck with me and was very lucky that he didn't fall. At that moment, however, I fell far behind. "
The number continues: “Apart from that, I had absolutely no rear grip in the early stages. It was incredibly difficult to drive. Because of this, I was just too slow most of the time. Only the last few laps, when the balance of the bike changed a bit and the weight decreased, were reasonably OK. Before that, I also had great difficulties on the brakes. I was hardly able to brake properly on a curve, I often drove straight ahead and sometimes even drove into the rear of the man in front because the motorcycle did not slow down properly. " We have once again left good points behind. Despite these aggravating circumstances, taking one point with me is due to a few falls towards the end of the race.Under normal circumstances, however, a top result would have been possible from my very unfavorable starting position. I am convinced of that."
After 16 of 18 World Championship races, Schrötter is now tenth in the overall standings with 85 points.
The penultimate race of the season will take place on Sunday, November 7th, in Portimao (Portugal), and the finale will take place a week later in Valencia (Spain).
