The train station in Feldkirchen has officially opened.

But it is far from finished.

The ramp and bike racks are still locked.

Feldkirchen

- The never-ending story of the renovation at the S-Bahn station in Feldkirchen can still surprise you.

The ramp is still closed to wheelchair users or prams - and the bike racks have not yet opened either.

Allegedly the necessary lighting is missing.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation work was in 2018, when those responsible at DB predicted that everything should be completely finished by mid-2019 at the latest.

With a delay of almost two years, the converted S-Bahn station was reopened in early 2021.

Whereby “finished” hardly applied: the elevator was missing, as were the train display boards on the platform.

Those waiting on this stand in the rain without a roof to this day.

"Please remove your bikes immediately"

In order to get onto the platform at all, a wide, flat ramp was built for wheelchair or walker users as well as parents with prams. It is still blocked today. The generous bike rack is still closed off with a site fence. However, this fence was "opened by strangers and bicycles parked in the facility", announced the responsible DB Station & Service AG. Therefore, signs are now hanging on the site fence. One says: “It is strictly forbidden to use the facility.” The other says: “Please remove your bicycles immediately. The bicycle parking facility is out of order ". The only question that arises is where cyclists should park their bikes, because there are numerous signs around the train station that say "Do not park bicycles."

Because the community did not know about the prohibition signs around the bike racks, they asked the railway. There you reply by e-mail that all electrical services, including lighting, are missing in the “West bicycle parking area. Unfortunately, there has been no planning for the lighting for this part ”, writes DB Station & Service. The planning and the lighting are now "in preparation and will go into the approval run of the specialist planning as soon as this arrives". The system could not be removed without the required lighting and therefore commissioning could not take place. The risk of accidents due to a lack of lighting, especially in the dark, is very high and Deutsche Bahn "unfortunately cannot and does not want to take on this responsibility," said the DB spokesman.

The now illegally parked bicycles within the facility also made the situation with the construction company more difficult, they also hindered the completion of the remaining service, as "no construction clearance" was given.

The DB announced, however, that the bicycles will not be removed for the time being, and that an opening has been left free in the construction barrier so that the owners can remove their bicycles themselves.

“We are trying to put the remaining output into operation this year if possible.

However, this depends on the delivery times of the lights and the availability of the specialist companies, which is currently unfavorable to us, "is the answer from DB Station & Service AG to the question of when the bike racks can be expected to open.
