Asked about it on France 2 this Tuesday, Bruno Retailleau judged this start of the campaign "
violent
", which is "
not surprising
" according to him.

Today politics is violent because society is violent.
We can see that the style that a certain number of candidates have taken is that of social networks,
”explains the boss of senators Les Républicains.

In his eyes, this violence is not the work of a single candidate, but it is "
very collective
".

There is also a media part (...) There is no more restraint,
" he argues.
And to add: “
What is terrible is that France is fractured.
We need appeasement.
We need a collective leap that turns us towards the future, and not just towards resentment
”.
"This start of the campaign is taking a worrying turn"
An observation shared by other political figures.
On Public Senate this Tuesday, Johanna Rolland, the campaign director of Anne Hidalgo (PS), also expressed her concern about the "
rise of a form of violence
".

The turn taken at the start of the presidential campaign is worrying.
(...) There is a need for respect.
We can have diametrically different political positions, it is the nobility of the democratic debate, but there is this form of exemplary public speaking
”, explains the socialist mayor of Nantes.
