Not in silence, but in the presence of their families and friends, 200 soldiers of Sergeant and Training Battalion 3 took their oath of service.

In doing so, we vowed to stand up for the rights and freedom of the German people.

Altenstadt

- The CSU member of the state parliament Harald Kühn, district administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß, guests from the military, the police, the schools and the soldiers and veterans' associations as well as the mayors from Altenstadt and the surrounding area, parents and friends of the soldiers, were among the guests at the swearing-in ceremony on the sports field. Torchbearers showed the way to the sports field, the flag procession was provided by the airborne and transport school, and the band was provided by the mountain music corps of the Bundeswehr from Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Lieutenant Colonel Sven Tillery, commander of Training Battalion 3, said he was very happy that the public could be included again in this swearing-in ceremony for the first time in a year and a half.

Speaking to the 200 soldiers, Tillery said the oath of service included "a courageous promise".

Namely, to commit to the ultimate consequence, the commitment of health and life.

Future military leaders

As future military leaders, the course participants play an important role.

"In the future you will be deployed in your military branches as leaders, trainers and educators and will be responsible for the men and women entrusted to you." It is therefore important that you keep yourself physically fit "and grit your teeth" when things get strenuous .

Tillery paid tribute to the 200 soldiers for their courageous decision to take visible responsibility for freedom, justice, humanity and peace with the swearing-in ceremony.

480 course participants per company and year are trained in the two companies in the training battalion.

150 regular soldiers support the training assignment.

Sergeant Major Heiko Weber, deployed several times in Afghanistan, said that when he became a soldier in 1988 he could never have imagined that he should have defended freedom in the Hindu Kush one day.

In doing so, he learned how important a good education can be.

"It is life insurance for all of us."

Fears of the threshold at the center of the sermon

District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß felt “great joy that freedom could be regained with this public swearing-in ceremony”. The service of the soldiers is a service to the land and the constitution. After 20 years, the Bundeswehr has withdrawn from Afghanistan. 59 soldiers died during this time. All soldiers deployed there showed exemplary reliability and stood up for peace and freedom with honor. "You belong to the great good of peace, dear soldiers."

The ecumenical worship service preceded the roll call.

Pastor Stefan Bauhofer placed “fear of the threshold” at the center of his sermon, which everyone has probably had in his life and will still experience.

As a solemn vow, the band played the “Bavarian Military Prayer” chorale and the Bavarian and national anthems at the end of the roll call.
